Commercial Construction

The value and safety of your structure rely heavily on obtaining a building permit prior to construction. A building permit is your reassurance that your building plans, as well as the structure you build, will be inspected for minimum code safety.

Definitions

Commercial construction can be defined as any structure intended to house commercial activity or those structures which are located on property with either commercial or industrial zoning. Submittal requirements for Commercial Tenant Improvements (TI) are less than those of commercial buildings.

Submittal Requirements

Three complete sets of building plans and 7 Site or Grading and Drainage plans are required along with other application materials. See the appropriate application packet in the Information and Application Packets section below.

Please note: Starting September 22, 2008, all multi-family, commercial and industrial construction permits will first require a land use approval of the site plan through the Plan of Development review process prior to construction permit issuance. The Board of Supervisors implemented this requirement in order to ensure consistent application of minimum development standards throughout unincorporated Maricopa County. For more information on this new process, please contact our department at 602-506-3301 and ask for the on-call planner.
