Supervisor Steve Gallardo, District 5, is the recipient of a domestic violence prevention advocacy award from the Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence (ACESDV). The Ocotillo Award celebrates an individual who has identified an issue facing sexual and domestic violence victims and has championed legislative or budgetary changes to benefit victims. Each October during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Gallardo has educated the County’s more than 13,000 employees about the issue of domestic violence. Gallardo spreads awareness through posters, handouts, and tabling events at various employee locations.
“I am humbled to accept this award in honor of the victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault,” said Gallardo. “My goal is that our society will no longer accept abusive behaviors in domestic situations. Families have the right to be safe in their homes and in their relationships.”
Gallardo will receive the award at the 7th Annual ACESDV Thrive Gala and Awards Dinner on May 13 at the Arizona Grand Resort.
