Today, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors appointed Raquel Terán to fill the Arizona Senate vacancy in Legislative District 30.
District 30 covers west central Phoenix, from downtown all the way north to Dunlap Avenue and west to 67th Avenue. It’s an area Terán is familiar with; not only does she live there, she currently represents the district in the Arizona House.
“It was my pleasure to nominate Raquel Terán," said Supervisor Steve Gallardo, District 5. "I know Raquel will do a tremendous job in her continued public service for the constituents of LD-30."
Terán was elected to the Arizona House in November 2018. As a member of the House, she serves on the Criminal Justice Reform and Government and Elections committees. In addition, Terán is the current Chair of the Arizona Democratic Party.
Board members selected Terán from a list of three candidates submitted by a citizen’s panel they appointed, in accordance with Arizona law. The candidates had to live in the district and be a member of the same party as the person who vacated the office. In this case, a Democrat.
Raquel Terán will serve through 2022. The next election for seats in the Arizona Senate will be the 2022 primary.District 30 covers west central Phoenix
