Through its two comprehensive career centers and workforce development partnerships with cities and towns across the region, Maricopa County’s Human Services Department helped more than 11,000 people search for their next career opportunity between July 2022 and June 2023.

  • Career counseling services were provided to 3,338 people
  • Job placements were made for 1,176 people
  • 28 Hiring fairs were held
  • 1,150 Job seekers attended hiring fairs with 145 people hired the same day
  • 388 Businesses participated in programming to connect with top local talent
  • 1,050 Career workshops were held to provide skills to career seekers

"We have seen tremendous success through this model where we bring a proven workforce development program into a well-known, local community gathering space,” said Board of Supervisors Chairman Clint Hickman, District 4. “By working together in this way with cities and towns, we're successfully connecting local employers to people who are in the area and actively searching for their next career opportunity.”

Looking to grow the program further, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an agreement with the City of Tempe to expand its workforce development services by adding a Business Service Representative at the Tempe Public Library, located at 3500 South Rural Road, Tempe. The County and Tempe had previously collaborated to add a Workforce Development Coordinator position to work with individual career seekers.

"Engaging the local business community is a great expansion to this proven program,” said Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Vice Chairman Jack Sellers, District 1. “Employers in and around Tempe can call upon the Business Service Representative to help them match with top local talent and hold hiring fairs to find career seekers who are the best fit for their business."

The new agreement further extends the reach of the program to businesses and integrates Maricopa County’s Human Services programs into the city’s Community Health and Human Services programs. Under the terms of the agreement, the cost for the on-site business engagement position will be shared equally between the county and the city, with the arrangement extending through June 30, 2026.

The partnership with the City of Tempe is part of a broader initiative that brings Maricopa County’s support services and programs directly to communities through a collaborative model. Maricopa County’s network of workforce development satellite locations includes the cities of Avondale, Goodyear, Mesa, Scottsdale, Surprise, and Tempe as well as the towns of Gila Bend, Queen Creek, and Wickenburg.
